Afganistan: How We Got There
In this articile, it reminds us of America's journey with Afganistan. Like in 1979 when Islamic guerillas threatened to topple the Communist-leaning government in Kabul, and the Soviet Union invading. We have had so many problems with the Soviet Union and after they were dismembered we thought that, that problem was over. It wasn't. Like on 9/11/2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon took place killing 3,000 people because of 19 suicide hijackers. Ever since then Afganistan has been our main priorety. Their leader Osama bin Laden, has created so many attacks on America and some even said that he has additionally planned 50 more. America's president, Barack Obama does not want to see Afganistan start another but completly different, Vietnam war with us. He has sent an additional 30,000 American troops into Afganistan which brings the total to about 100,000 troops. "I do not make this decision lightly," he said, "I make this decision because I am convinced that our security is at stake." Well if it does turn out to be another Vietnam war we will have more than our security at stake then.
